When discussing my preferred way to conduct a session with clients, it's common for me to hear "what do you mean by lifestyle photography?" It can be confusing when there's so many terms photographers use to define themselves and their services.
Essentially, it comes back to my core values and business model: connection, experience, and customisation. When creating your collection, my priority is making it yours. Something that represents you and your current stage of life.
I'll get the photos of you standing together and all smiling at the camera, I know they're important to you. After that, that's where the magic happens. All the little things that makes your family yours, that's what I aim to capture. The giggles, cheeky smiles, the little jokes that only your people understand.
It goes further than the who, too, the where is just as important. You and your loved ones in a place you adore. Are you nature lovers? Beach goers? Or maybe, simply homebodies? Do your people live life in the fast lane, or prefer to take it slow? Your time with me starts with me understanding you.
Do you have kids and you're worried about getting nice photos? With a lifestyle session, we meet them where they're at. Got an energetic toddler who loves exploring? We go into nature and we let them explore. Maybe your child just wants to be at home doing something creative? We get out the art supplies, music, or their favourite toy and we let them enjoy themselves. Perhaps you have a sports fanatic who isn't happy without some equipment in their hands? We let them run or shoot some hoops. We get you together, connecting and enjoying the little things in life, I'm there to capture it all.
Don't worry about not knowing what to do. I'm there to prompt you and give you guidance. Your job is to be there, in the moment enjoying your favourite people. I promise I won't leave you floundering.
So, to answer the question, a lifestyle session is about you and your family. It's natural posing, moments of connection, and capturing who you are. Less 'smile for the camera', more 'smile for each other'.
