Editing is a professional photographer's bread and butter; for many, it takes years to refine a signature style. This aspect of our work is artistic and highly individualised, which is why our work all looks so different!

Most photographers won't edit outside of their style, we're actually discouraged from doing so. We're told our work will look confusing and that no one wants to book a photographer that doesn't have a direction and vision. I struggle to be so black and white, to close myself off to an entire sphere of artistic expression. The truth is, not everyone likes the same thing. I've never loved the idea of limiting my clients' options when it's in my power to give them choice.

The style I gravitate to when editing is very natural and true-to-colour. I enjoy authenticity and to me, changing the entire colour-grading of an image doesn't necessarily feel genuine. However, I know that some clients are looking for something different. They don't always need a moment to look exactly as it did, as long as it feels true. What this looks like is different for everyone.

You may not be able to articulate exactly what you like or why you like it, but you see it and you just know. You look at an image and feel nostalgic or emotional or excited; something about it just resonates with you. I want to offer that choice. I want you to love the way I capture your memories, but I also want you to love the way they are preserved. These photographs aren't just for today, they're for the years ahead, when tiny details have faded and all that's left is the feeling.

That's why I'm happy to work with clients to create an aesthetic that feels right for them. You just need to discuss it with me when you enquire. Take a look at these images of beautiful Abbey, the exact same moment, in five different editing styles. Only you know what you'd like best hanging on your wall. At Willow & Wren, my signature, true-to-colour editing is included with every session. For clients seeking a more bespoke aesthetic, custom-colour grading is available as an optional add-on.
